I have a Belkin Wireless G router- 2.4Ghz -802.11g. Right now I have WPA security, i think the best. I want to change it to WEP because I want to play the nintendo ds, the ds does not support WPA. So how do I change it. I tried putting the cd and changing it but I couldnt do it. Then I found out you type in something in your url on your browser and it shows the menu where you can change stuff. And I select security and change to WEP but it says enter a passphrase and hex key, so I dont think that was right. So how do I change it? I would also want a password for this setting also. Thanks

You already figured out how to do it, but the stuff you mention are on a rail track and unchangeable:

WEP key is natively hexdecimal numbering (0-F) and of certain lengths; 10 hex digits for 40-bit security, another preset digits for 128-bit security. Most setups will conveniently let you use passphrase and convert that phrase to hex on the fly I believe they are using simple ASCII map.

Routers' CD are never necessary; "Then I found out you type in something in your url on your browser and it shows the menu where you can change stuff..." that's it.

You need to do the WEP entry on the DS too, I don't know if Nintendo programmed it to take in passphrase and convert or not, you may need the native numbers to put in there.

You don't use the CD. You use the Web Interface on the Belkin.

You have to enter the phrase and it should generate a pass key. You'll then use that passs key to connect.

Also, it's nice to know that Nintendo doesn't support WPA... Cross that off the list.

All you have to do is

* Select the encryption type as 64bits(Key length is 10digits) or 128(Key length is 26digits) bits..

Note: (you can use numbers from 0 to 9 and alphabets A to F to frame the key)

* Type something in the passphrase and push generate button..

* Copy down key #1..

Key #1 is your n/w key..

I think you got it!!

try using wpa2 as its harder to hack and has higher security. switch on the router firewall also as it will help.
