I'm trying to connect my laptop to my main desktop PC with a crossover cable but not having much luck so far. I've give them static IP adresses which is working fine, they can ping one another no problem but when i go into 'my network places' the shared files aren't there (I've enabled sharing on the hard drives of both computers and 'file and print sharing' is installed and enabled). When I go to 'view workgroup computers' i can see the computer i want to connect to but when i try and explore it, it says it's not accessible and to check i have permission (I'm the only user account on both computers). What am I doing wrong?

hi, my neighbor(my aunt and uncle) has a wireless router. the brand name is linksys. they have the connection with a password, but they gave it to me. i only use the internet when i have to do school work and look things up, so they dont mind me using it. but i can only use their connection if im in the my bedroom. how can i make their signal stronger so i can use the internet in my bedroom? i read i would have to get a repeater or something like that. how does it work, do i put the repeater in my house and itll make the signal stronger, or do i put it in their house? thanks

AS above, when im in the sitting room where my wireless router is located my signal is 100%, but when i go into my bedroom, my signal drops, to around 50%, its not a huge problem, but it does get a pain sometimes ?

Can i get a signal booster ? or even an extension so as i can put a wireless router in my bedroom also ?

Thanks.

Hi all,

My neighbour has a few little probs with her laptop which is wireless, she lives 2 doors away from me. Both my laptop and hers are side by side, minebeing logged on to BT my ISP which also is my neighbours, both of us have BT home hubs.
She cannot log onto internet in my house, she is approx 50 feet away from her BT Home hub. I have tried turning my PC off but she still cannot log on. How can she use my BT Hub connection as we need to go onto internet for certain things.

Prob 2.

When she tries logging on to internet explorer she still has orange on the top as her ISP but not on BT Yahoo Internet, how can we get orange deleted off Internet explorer.

Thanks Guys

Why do most US DSL and broadband companies offer asymmetric connections (e.g., 3 Mbit download/768 kbit upload)? In my area, the cost of service from the generally available service (1 MBit upload) to a "private line" T1 leaps to thousands of dollars a month.
