If you have dial up service, plug a working telephone onto the cable. If the phone works then it is not the connection. check the connection between your modem and wall plate and make sure connectors are seated in right (usually an audible click is heard when connector is seated right). If connectors are seated properly, cable(s) look good, and there are no issues with the land line from tel-co to your home, then it may be your modem.
A modem can be checked with a loop back plug or by using ping from the command line.
If link light does not return after the above tests then replace modem with a new one. Dial up modems are not too expensive these days and are not to difficult to replace in the PC.
If you have broadband service (DSL or Road-Runner) call your service provider for a new modem.

ninety 9% of those techs that come recognize next to no longer something. whilst the organization says "it is going to artwork" all meaning is they might ping the modem from their workplace/trunk/and so on. First, have you ever unplugged the two the router and the modem and plugged them lower back in? If any configurations replaced out of your provider you have have been given to depart your router unplugged for 10 plus minutes as some cache the IPs. i might additionally attempt resetting them (discover the little button you prefer a pen to press in). i might twine the modem at the instant on your NIC for now and get your connection working that way first (it takes out the router from the equation). on account which you have completed this and nevertheless have not have been given something extra troubleshooting is needed. Did you attempt to ping localhost (127.0.0.a million or ::) out of your cmd? the 1st element i might seem at is your NIC configruation as this is likely one in all the wrongdoer. interior the cmd window form ipconfig /all and spot if the IPs journey what they ought to be. in spite of if, you could bypass into the LAN connection settings and alter the configuration of the tcp/ip as needed. without extra advice in spite of the undeniable fact that i can't assist you extra.

Sounds like no signal. Maybe they are working on the line or you need to reboot. Last, you would need a new modem if the light never came back.
