If you mean that your internet speed is lower, try clearing the internet cache including cookies, temporary files. That will generally restore the computer to its initial stage. It is also a good idea to increase the RAM if it is below half GB.
If your computer has slowed down in opening, saving or closing other applications, then it is most likely some spyware. Just try adaware from lavasoft.com and better download the google pack. The best solution (my experience) is to format the system after copying your important files.
Good luck.

Yes, mine seems slower too. The Norton Antivirus thing, checking everything including the emails you send out & scanning every photo you attach really slows it up, but also it goes faster if you get rid of some of the stuff clogging it up, photos mainly because they take up a lot of space. If it was still on narrowband it would be even slower.

i would agree with checking your RAM, also clearing all your temporary files, cookies etc, but one thing i would recommend is that you clear your PREFETCH folder, if your computer has been running a long time this folder tends to overflow, thus making everything work much slower, upon clearing this folder reboot and see if it increases speed by much, it should do, but remember when you delete all from PREFETCH it goes straight to your recycle bin so empty that then reboot, good luck, i would also been interested to know what platform you run as i have lots of tips and tweaks particularly for the XP series
