Yes - dial up is very important. Using digital dial up is very common for businesses. This is mostly used as backup to the computer networks for a business. When the main line fails the router automatically detects the failure and uses ISDN (digital dialup) to dial up to the remote end. he connection is kept open until the main line fault is fixed. Also with dial up you can force an extra level of security called dial back. A person dials up a computer network and then enters a username, password and a telephone number. The central system hangs up the original call and dials the user back. This way the billing for the call is from the central point and the dial back is secure for the company. Some systems don't accept a dial back telephone number they are pre-configured with a fixed dial back number, i.e., a technical support person's home number. The support person uses this method to remotely support their company's computer system. Hope this explains it a little.

Yes, some secured connections can only be made on Dial up... Like some bank softwares use Dial up to connect and do transactions..... So dial up will still stay....

I still do. It's awfully slow, but it's cheaper, and I'm in no rush to go anywhere, I'm retired. Maybe some day I'll change it, though.

It is the slowest speed, so most people do not, though some still do. Verizon DSL is extremely good.
