I have a 2-wire router that is hooked up to DSL as we speak. I want to get rid of DSL and go to cable. Will this modem work with cable or do I need a new router? If I need a new router, what type, brand is reccomended, that is fairly inexpensive?

Like lets say you buy 2 routers and you want to connect them both together. Im asking if you plug in the main ethernet cable into one router and in the computer part of the same router connect a different router.

I wish to share a folder with only one of the 20 computers on a windows network. This folder is required to run a program using data on the second computer and therefore password protecting the folder is not an option. I don't want the others computers to be able to even see the contents of this shared folder.

I have two computers both having windows XP professional. I connect them using a LAN cable. I can see shared folders of laptop on desktop but can’t see shared folders of desktop on laptop. While attempting to do so, laptop asks for a password where the user name (already filled) is the name of my desktop. I have never set any passwords on both of my computers. I have tried creating new user accounts and setting new passwords but none of the password is accepted. I have checked my cable and it is crossover.

I recently bought new laptop from Dell and currently we have office network named 'officenetwork' runs on wireless router. We have four PC's connected to this network. One is connected via wire, and rest three has wireless network.

Our wireless network is using MAC address filter to allow only known computers in area to connect with it. Our wireless router is connected with office server where all our daily working files are stored. So with wireless network 'officenetwork' we can access internet as well as can work with files.

But now problem here is that I do have MAC address of new laptop, but don't know how to add it to wireless router to allow new laptop to connect it. I am trying to enter new laptops MAC address with currently connected PC's to network, but no luck since last two days.

When I enter the IP address 192.168.2.1 in connected computers I can access my server, but do you have any idea how can i get access directly to my router which is connected to server.

I want to link up two PC's and a laptop so that I can store my files all in one place and access the internet on a wireless connection. Is this possible with what I've got, ie 2x PCs and sometimes a laptop? I realise I'll need network cards and a wireless router but do I need a server as well?
What is the best way to set up a LAN?
Can I add in an external HDD to the system?
