I have a 2-wire router that is hooked up to DSL as we speak. I want to get rid of DSL and go to cable. Will this modem work with cable or do I need a new router? If I need a new router, what type, brand is reccomended, that is fairly inexpensive?

You internet connection is different with cable modems and DSL modems. Cable Modems have a coax connector Linksys has a pretty easy to use cable gateway that also has wireless capabilities.

DSL modems will not work with Cable, you will need a Cable modem and router (or Gateway - the combination of the two). You might want to check with your new ISP to find out if they provide the equipment or if you need to.. and if you need to provide it find out what the specifications are so that you can get the right kind. You also might want that information anyway so that you can get something better than what they are going to provide you with (typically they only give you a modem and not a router or gateway unless you pay extra) and you might be able to get a better deal at a local electronics store.

No. Your wireless router must be connected directly to your cable modem. The other option is to get a wireless router and cable modem as one unit.
