i want to be able to use my wifi at Barnes and Noble, and everywhere else wifi is available. do i have to pay a service to use it? if so, who do u recommend?

It's free wherever it offers it.(most places) At the places that charge they usually have there own provider that you sign up with. Or another option is to purchase nextels PCMCIA wifi adapter which works like a cell phone so you dont have to be near the wifi port, if you do not want to have to pay every body elses fee's you just pay nextels. As said before most places are free try sticking to the free places!

Wifi service at hotspots is managed by the business at that location- so it varies as whether it's free or they charge. All you need is a wifi card in your computer (unless it's got the capbility already built-in)

The coffee shop/bookstore etc. will have to provide you with the information needed to connect, like the network SSID, security key (if any) and possibly, method of payment. Plenty of places are free, but their settings wil vary- what works at Panera won't be correct for Coffee Bean, etc...

if your laptop is wifi capable and your at a hot spot just connect and do your thing
