Say there was a wireless network barely out of reception range from your house. Is there any type of homemade antenna that could be used to increase signal strength to that network?

It's easy to do it on a hubbed network, but when your lan has switches it becomes tough. I need a software tool (traffic meter) that enables me to measure the traffic on the network and also to trace which is the IP address or MAC address that consumes the most of the bandwidth.

The two traditional PBXs were previously linked via their (electrical)E1 interfaces by a multiple E1 carrier system over single mode fibre.
The two routers -one is actually a 2610- were linked via vwic-1Mft-E1 interfaces thus the WAN link was a 2mb/s link.

Now the carrier system is obsolete and 100base-fx fibre converters are to replace the at either end where two Cisco 2950-24 switches are connected thus placing all devices under one LAN and providing a greater LAN bandwidth than the previous 2Mb/s WAN Link. However the telephone exchanges at either end still need to be taken care of in the new set-up.

I've recently been in charge of implementing a new network solution for my employer, and while I have been a systems admin for over 5 years now, I haven't been integral in the design and implementation of a multitiered network (different segments for the front-end, web-servers and databases), so I'm looking for any links or documents online that people might have marked, or perhaps any personal pointers/tips from personal experience.

I have this NIC connected to this switch.

NIC: http://www.encore-usa.com/product.php?id=2&lang=
switch: http://netgear.com/Products/Switches/DesktopSwitches/GS605.aspx?

Both are gigabit but the physical link status indicates that it is connected at 100Mbps, not gigabit. The led on the switch should be green if connected at gigabit, but it's orange. On the PC side, the Status of this interface says the speed is 100Mbps.

How can I make it work at 1000Mbps?

No problem in sending and receiving packets. Only the link speed is the issue here.

I have a computer rental shop and most of the time my online games always has updates and I have to update each and everyone of my 10 computers. It takes a lot of time.
There must be a way to update one and then probably it will update all. It would be like all computer in the network would have the same content on thier harddisks without removing the harddisk and cloning them.

I am looking to ‘link’ two parts of my house together to the same network… how do I do this?

I have a WRT54G in my office(Point A) where the DSL comes in. In another part of my house (Point B) I want to add another desktop and a network device both have 100Meg wired connections at point B. How can I link A and B together via wireless while still having the devices in Point B connected to a wired hub.

I want my WRT54G at A to control DHCP, etc.

From looking at the Bridge WET54G it will connect to one device only. Looking at the Wireless Access Point it is not clear what the differences are as they both have only one port… Do I need an access point to attach to a hub? Therefore two products?

Any help would be great.

This is what I tried before based on what one of the guys in the store told me... but it did not work.
I tried buying a USB wireless adaptor (Netgear) to add to the PC and then have the PC plug’s into a $15.00 switch I picked up at Fry's. then plugging in the S
