I want to creat a shortcut to a file on a network drive on my decktop.

I am running MAC OSX Tiger and the file i want to shortcut to is on a PC on my small office network.

Open the network drive so you view the file icon. Hold down both the option & apple keys while dragging the file to your desktop. Shortcuts are called alias' on Macs so you also can highlight the file then select Make Alias from the file menu.

Connecting by an alias to a Samba drive folder or file is not so simple as it is to a Mac or Unix drive. Read this discussion carefully and give it a try:
