Computer Networking - September 2006

I just need to know what the speed is so I can see if it would make any difference if I switch to a wireless connection.

I need to purchase a device to check my computer network cables for correct instalaltion, good connection etc. I have checked online and there are hundreds at all kinds of price ranges. I was hoping not to spend more than US $50, though if it is absolutely the best thing to do, I can spend more. Can anyone recommend a good device?

According to the instructions , it is recommended setting up your network with a USB Flash Drive, it first states to insert the USB flash drive into your laptop and then into your access point. What exactly is the access point, is it the router or the PC with the Router connected to it? I noticed the router has no USB connections so I assume it is the Desktop PC with router. If so, do you just plug it in and wait or do I need to copy something? The instructions do not state this.

It works one way, ie I can see the other PC from this one, but the other one comes up with an error about administrator not giving rights or something??

I was planning to set up a wireless network. The modem was supposed to be connected to the router and the router will be the one to be connected to the switches to distribute the connection to wireless devices. Is this possible?

It's one of our project in data comm. but it's just theoritical.
The network was suppose to be wireless then could it be possible that the network will subscribe to two internet connections and a device will just channel connections so that there wouldn't be much traffic when the users go online

anybody have any ideas on how to print from another cpu? the 2 cpus are hooked up to usb and a router. I saw the names next to the printer that is installed and they are both shared and i set the printer to default on the cpu that it is already plugged into. It just says document failed to print from the 2nd cpu.


2. Also on the remote desktop connection for xp. its calling for the username and password i've done that but it also is saying domain. I almost got it working i saw the black screen ready to load the other cpu interface but it comes up with need those 2 or 3 inputs for username, pw, domain then it might connect with no problem?

Restaurant:I have 3 windows 98 computers with touch screens and one office computer with XP home. I would like to wire all the computers into a wireless router for networking a POS point of sale software. Is this possible? And can I have the pos software just on the office computer and have the other computers access the software or should the software be installed on each one. Any reccomendations on routers or installation is appreciated. I would like to keep cost at a minimum.

I was thinking of getting a netgear wireless N router to do this.

I'm taking a trip this Friday & bringing my laptop computer. It's wireless, so how do I use it while I'm at my Aunts house, if she has dial-up? I have DSL, but don't you have to pay for a seperate wireless plan to be able to use away from home and on the road? Can Someone please explain to me how this works? Thanks!
