I'm taking a trip this Friday & bringing my laptop computer. It's wireless, so how do I use it while I'm at my Aunts house, if she has dial-up? I have DSL, but don't you have to pay for a seperate wireless plan to be able to use away from home and on the road? Can Someone please explain to me how this works? Thanks!

Wireless fees will vary from place to place. Some hotels give free internet access. At your Aunts house you will need to use dial-up. It may be available with your internet provider. For example I have sbcglobal DSL, but they also have dial-up numbers all over the country. Look up the numbers for your Aunts area, while you still have DSL and setup your computer ahead of time. Then you can use dial-up.

Contact your ISP and see if the dial-up that comes with most DSL accounts (for travelers) can work at your Aunts house. See if they have a local contact phone # because you would not want to pay charges. If not just go to a hot zone like library, starbucks Etc.

there a a few ways to use your laptop while on the road:

1. You can use dial up to access your account, but you'll have to pay access charges(and perhaps toll/long distance) for that.......

2. You can go to a internet cafe that has wireless access to the internet....depending on the place you'll either pay an hourly access charge or you just have to buy something.

3. You can use your aunt's account but this would require her giving you her ID and password, something she might not be willing to do and you configuring a dialup connection on your machine.

you can use her dialup by bringing a telephone cable, if your computer has a built in modem.
your DSL company should have local dial up numbers, hopefully there is one where your aunt lives in Florida. Verizon's are here: http://www2.verizon.net/resource_center/dialin.asp

you can test from home, just add the dialup connection, plug your computers modem into your phone line and call the number (you might need a modem card if your computer doesn't already have one)

Just take your laptop, plus it into the telephone jack. First you'll have to go into Control Panel and set up the dial-up. Then, you'll have to use your Aunts login info with her password, if she'll let you.

You can find hot spots, places that provide wireless service, some charge while some are free. You can check www.cnet.com for these sites.
