Computer Networking - September 2006

I have a laptop and established connection with another laptop
wirelessly. It shows : CONNECTION ESTABLISHED SUCCESSFULLY. But I don't know how to exchange files....
Please explain in detail. 10 points to the answer I understand the most.....

I want to switch modems from 2wire modem/router to speedstream 5100b so I can use my wireless router with the speedstream to get a better wireless connection. Now I do not know how to change my DNS so that I can use connect the speedstream. When I put in the Speedstream it won't connect to my SBC DSL at all. Can someone help me get connected to the internet with the speedstream?

fine i will explain my problem

i have a desktop & a laptop

Internet Connection Type : Cable Connection, aka from a cable modem

i have a netgear wireless router,ive configured the internet connection in a manner that i can share my internet connection & now i can acess the internet simultaneously from both the laptop & desktop and my desktop is having a wired connection to the router

router uses DHCP & assigned 192.168.0.2 for desktop & 192.168.0.3 for my notebook , i am able to ping to my router , but i am unable to ping to my desktop from my laptop , my main intention is to share files among them , please help me in this issue

called at&t I have DSL Its suposta be high speed (more like a turtle) but the computer itself is slow on everything and it will frezze up! Its not a internet problem they told me we were on theh phone for hours and figured out it was the computer itself. I got it from a friend of my moms for a good price, b ut it wasn't like tjat when I first hooked it up all ive done is down load like 3 games it shouldnt do that i wouldn't think. could someone please help me out on how to speed it up I dont know how to defragment my computer I dont know what to do!! Please help Im fixing to start college online and dont need all these problems!!! it wasn't that slow when i first hooked it up I need help in texas!!!! I also dont know how to burn cd or dvd it says cd writer/dvd. but i mainly want to know how to speed the computer up thanks for ANY help you can give me!! I have a 2 month old little boy & a 2 yr old i have my hands full alreday it would help to have one less problem!!

Long story short...had a tech out that said my network card was bad but the thing is less than a year old. I am suspect since this guy wanted to use some sort of USB adapter to enable me to get online again. Why the heck would he not suggest a new network card if that was really the problem? Is there any way for me to check it on my own by looking on the computer? I was not there when the diagnosis was made...my mother-in-law was....ugh!
I tried my laptop on the connection and it did not work...perhaps a bad cable? THanks in advance
