It relies upon on the television and on the laptop. some computers have s-video output, which will assist you connect it to a television. In practice i've got stumbled in this somewhat dodgy on something under a 720p HDTV nevertheless. maximum mid- to intense-end television's at present have VGA connections which will actually enable the laptop to apply the television as a 2d VGA computer screen. it quite is a thank you to bypass if your television can assist you it. Barring that, there are adapters available for VGA to composite or whatnot yet they're somewhat costly and the outcomes are not going to be very stable on something different than an HDTV. As on your networking question, you additionally can use a under pressure out connection to connect your computer/pc and your laptop yet you will desire some thing to grant DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) so a router is the final wager. you ought to use under pressure out connections to the router in case you will possibly desire to not use instantaneous.

It sounds like you're running Windows XP and the firewall on one PC isn't letting the other see it. Try disabling the firewalls on both the desktop and the laptop. It's likely you have more than one firewall on each PC, so disable them all. Also, don't forget to allow file and printer sharing on the desktop and be sure to share a drive or folder on the desktop. Good Luck!

Next select "just finish the wizard; I don't need to run the wizard on other computers"

Do this on all your computers make sure that the workgroug name is the same on all computers, and computer names are different on all computers.

To browse your network open explorer (windows key+e to open explorer) click on my network places
> entire network > Microsoft windows network then click on your workgroug name.

You should use the Network Setup Wizard which will guide you through a step-by-step process of configuring your network and file/printer sharing.

START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK SETUP WIZARD

it's been a long time since i set up my home network but from what i remember the steps in the wizard will help you get both set up on the same domain/workgroup, named uniquely, and turn on filesharing. there may even be a firewall setting in there. if both computers have floppy drives (mine don't) you can create a setup disk and just pop it in to configure multiple pc's.

good luck!
