I want to switch modems from 2wire modem/router to speedstream 5100b so I can use my wireless router with the speedstream to get a better wireless connection. Now I do not know how to change my DNS so that I can use connect the speedstream. When I put in the Speedstream it won't connect to my SBC DSL at all. Can someone help me get connected to the internet with the speedstream?

This is an ethernet only modem. Why would I need any network drivers? Only modems that have USB need network drivers

Speedstream, I tried doing it with PPoE and for some reason it won't connect to the internet. The third light (connection to internet light) just keeps blinking red. This modem is fustrating me. Thanks in advance.

I using the same modem with SBC. Are you using the supplied SBC software to get connected? If not then that may be your problem. You may need to download the PPPoE software they distribute with the speedstream. That's assuming you have the modem plugged directly to your computer. In my case I have my modem connected to the WAN input to a Linksys router. The router does all the work of getting the modem to connect. I just run the routers setup and tell it to use PPPoE and feed it a user name and password. I'm connected in seconds after that.

There is a small reset button on the bottom of the modem(might be covered by label. With the power on press the button for several seconds. This should reset the modem back to factory defaults.

No need to that. You just need to configure your speedstream 5100 dsl modem with the userid and password. How to do that? Open IE. Type on the address bar, 192.168.0.1. It should bring you to Login Page. Click on Login button, type in your userid and password that was provided by your ISP. Click on connect, if its asking for modem access code, look underneath your modem it is in yellow sticker. Once you are connected. Go to Advanced, click on Connection Configuration, check for connection type, it should be Smart Keep Alive. Then click on Saved changes button. Thats it!

you have two options :

1 . set your 2wire modem in a bridge mode to hook up 3rd party router ( call tech support : 1-877-722-3755)

2. for SS 5100b , establish direct connection first . open IE browser , in the address bar, type in 192.168.0.1 . If connection information shows up , check USERID , if it's sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net , click ADVANCED & CONNECTION CONFIGURATION , provide modem's access code , click continue . it should prompt you to a CONNECTION CONFIGURATION WARNING screen ... type in your SBC/ATT master account userid & password ... click SAVE CHANGES then click RESTART ( 1 minute) , then click CONNECT . Once connected , browse websites .

If you want to connect a wireless router in your 5100b , set modem in a bridge mode ... access 192.168.0.1 , click ADVANCED , then PPP location , then select "Bridged Mode (PPPoE is not used) " , click SAVE CHANGES . The modem is in a bridge mode state if internet light is OFF . Then set-up your router.

You will have to work with the SBC DSL people. Only they can tell you if the Speedstream 5100B is compatible with their network and how to set it up.
