I am a bit confused as to what "stuck in windows XP" means here. You mean it wont shut down? Or do you mean it wont fully boot up? or is it simply stuck on the screen with the windows Xp logo? Is this the same computer that you used to put your question onto yahoo answers?
Need more info to help you here. But as was suggested you can hit the power button and boot up fresh and it should resolve your issue. If you do have problems after that you can do a system restore. If after that you are still having problems then a reformat would in fact be a good idea. Look up reformating windows Xp on google theres lots of good instructions there. SOme with screen shots too
Good luck :)

If you are referring to the boot up mode. You may want to hold down the power button until the computer shuts off. When you reboot the computer, press the f8 button to boot into safe mode. If you can get into safe mode log in as administrator. Try and see if you can preform a system restore.

BUT

a good wipe and clean restore is good for the soul.

It sounds like you might be full of spyware. If you are running a yahoo spyware scanner you should run it as soon as you get it to yahoo again. Safe mode should help you get this done. Also you could try the windows xp rollback feature. It will roll back windows to the last know good profile. (system restore)

It is better to use the quick restore cd and do a software reinstallation. if it fails it is bette for you to start the system as the system is beginning to boot press F8 button it is take you to a page where u should choose safe mode. you can then enter and try to restore the system to a previous restore point, it should do the trick
