You don't have to transfer. You need to do a fresh installation on the laptop. If you want to get the music, then all you have to do is tell iTunes to look at the location on the desktop pc. Or you can copy the files to your my music folder on the laptop. If you do not have a networkl then you will have to rip the cd's again from the originals.

For itunes just install it from the CD/ download a new copy. For your SONGS (aka MP3's) .... Do a search on the net for a 'sharepod' type of application. These typically allow you to copy down from your ipod to another PC via a window like windows explorer. Also remember that although it worked just fine for me..................I can not actually guarantee your songs, your hardware or your data will be ok afterwards as there are risks with just about anything you do in life! .. Good Luck!

I have found that it's easy, but a little time consuming, to burn all the MP3s onto Cd's, and then load the MP3 files from the Cd's onto the laptop. What I like about this process is that you are also backing up your music files at the same time. I have heard too many stories about people who have lost their hard drives and lost all their music.
Good luck!

I suggest you "consolidate library" (its a function i believe to be either on the advanced or tools toolbar. This transfers all your music to one folder this folder is typically located in My Music--> iTunes. Now select this folder and transfer it either by:
1) burning it to a DVD or CDs
2) use MSN Messenger to transfer the files
3) use an external hard drive (e.g. iPod)

the easiest and simplest way to transfer them would be to use a usb pen drive, transfer them on to the drive and insert them on to your laptop
usb pen drives come in 1gb sizes and bigger which makes file transfers easier than ever these days
