Ok, I would like to run a cable from my house, two doors down (we have permission from neighbor) and i have been told this is legal as long as all three property owners agree. anyway i would like to do this for many reasons such as playing a lan game on pc or xbox. Running an Ethernet that far, would i need some kind of signal booster on each end? And if anyone has any knowlege whether this is actually legal (Missouri). Ummm yea.... thats about it

When I take my ethernet cord and plug it into my computer from the cable modem, the internet works fine. When I take a different (longer) ethernet cord and plug it into my sister's computer from the cable modem, it says 'limited or no connectivity'. What is the deal with that? I don't understand why it's doing this. Any ideas?

i can't figure out what's wrong with my laptop. all the other computers in our house work fine (with wireless cards), but mine keeps resetting the connection. when it's connected, it says the connection is "excellent" and everything is fine, but then it resets the connection every 1-5 minutes, even when i am in the same room as the router. i looked for updated drivers (the computer is a Dell Inspiron 700m, with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter) but there wasn't anything that looked like it would help. anyone have any ideas?

I'm using a EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch - BEFSR41 - 1.0 - Linksys. I have two computers hooked up to the router and the router is hooked up to a VoIP cable/phone modem. My connection keeps hanging up. I have a splitter sharing connections to a cable box for the tv. Cable tv never gives me a problem but my internet connection freezes on either computer and when on the phone, sometimes it just goes silent. I tried calling the cable company and they say the splitter is bad. I have now replaced it for the 3rd time and I still have the problem. Right now I'm typing fast because I know that at any given moment my connection is going to freeze. Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a computer on a cable modem and I'm gettting a roommate tomorrow who will be bringing his computer also and wants to use my internet connection. I'm not interested in going wireless as the two rooms are right next to each other, so how do I run another cable line into the room where his computer is so he can have internet access? (please break it down for me, I'm a little computer ignorant)
