There are several ways to do this.

1. The way that most people have suggested. either get a wireless router to connect to your DSL directly with both your desktop and your laptop, or a wireless access point which you can then plug into your router connecting your laptop through it.

2. If you are after an internet connection rather than strictly file sharing, windows has a relativly quick and painless internet connection sharing wizard which will allow you to connect to the internet on your laptop via your desktop computer.

3. If you are only attempting to access your desktop through your laptop then you simply need to set up both wirless cards and enable file sharing.

The most effective option is purchasing the hardware to connect directly to the router from your laptop, but if you are looking for the most cost effective way to accomplish this look into the wizards that are found in the connections part of the windows control panel and it will set up almost anything automatically.

You will need to get a wireless router. It will cost you in the $50-60 range. Get the 802.11g (not the slower 802.11b - think b bad, g good when buy it)

Unplug the desktop and plug the DSL modem into the router
Run a second cable from the router to the desktop
Run the software that comes with the router to configure it

Once the router is up and working start the laptop
Go into My Network Places and in the bar on the left run the Small network setup or the wireless wizard

Connect to what ? if you meen that u need to connect to a wireless internet service then you will have to get a WireLess Router or a Modem. Other than that you may think of Wi-Fi which is Much more faster & available thru leading Telecom providors such as Vodaphone, Bell :)
