I'm using a EtherFast® Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch - BEFSR41 - 1.0 - Linksys. I have two computers hooked up to the router and the router is hooked up to a VoIP cable/phone modem. My connection keeps hanging up. I have a splitter sharing connections to a cable box for the tv. Cable tv never gives me a problem but my internet connection freezes on either computer and when on the phone, sometimes it just goes silent. I tried calling the cable company and they say the splitter is bad. I have now replaced it for the 3rd time and I still have the problem. Right now I'm typing fast because I know that at any given moment my connection is going to freeze. Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks.

Have the cable company come out and test the signal. The cheapo splitters you get at Radio Shack or Wally World won't cut it; the cable company can supply the quality units. Also, if you're using RG-58 cable, it needs to be replaced with RG-6. Again, the cable company can do that.

When the signal dies, watch the cable modem. Does it go through its re-synch routine when the signal drops? Or does the router re-synch? If the cable modem re-synchs, it's either the cable modem or the signal. If the router re-synchs, its the router. The BEFSR41 had issues with its early firmware including spontaneous reboots and hangs. Might be a good idea to update it.

One thing you could try would be to connect one computer directly to the cable company supplied modem and see if it still freezes up. If yes - then at least you have tied down the problem to the splitter/cable modem. If it works better then you need to look at your Switch and EtherFast Cable router and your cables.

That is another thing to try - swap out the cable between the cable router and the splitter. Cables can get nicked or bent and cause performance issues.

ok you need 2 things in order for this to work
you need a splitter that splits the phone line into the modem and to the phone. 2nd you need a filter to filter the connection to the phone. First thing you need to do is shut down the modem and router and all pc's. 2nd you need to split the phone line to the phone and too the modem. Then connect the modem to the router. At this point turn the modem back on. Next you need to run the cable from the modem to the router. then you need to hook up all the computers to the router. Now you need to turn on the router. and finally you need to turn on all pc's. there that should solve your problem.

Disconnect the cable box from the line altogether. I used to be a service tech for a couple of phone company's and cable boxes are notorious for screwing up a phone line, not to mention their excellent tech support (haha). Then try it again and see how long it works.

you should have the cable company come in and run a direct line for your computer.

Setups like that shouldn't use splitters, period. I've ALWAYS had problems with that.

because you say you already tried a diverse community card, did you try a diverse community cable? I surely have considered a community cable get fried till now with the aid of storms... once you've one valid operating workstation i could take the community cable out of that workstation because you comprehend it incredibly works and attempt making use of it. community CABLE UNPLUGGED ability only that...it does no longer detect an illustration achieving the community card from the cable (or there is surely no cable plugged in).
