I'm trying to get a computer to list out all of the valid IP addresses that it thinks it can talk to in a local area network, basically to "ping everything, and tell me what answered". I need to do this with both Windows and Linux machines. Is there a cheap and dirty utility that can scan these and report back?

I also have a VPN setup, and would like to be able to do the same thing over the VPN. Is that possible?

Thanks!

I have bought this router recently second hand so i could have a wireless network, it was easy to set up with wep key security, the only problem was sometimes it lost the connection. I decided to reset it, now the router wont respond. I cant get in to the setup page, it wont give out ip addresses or the default gateway. I have tried manually setting it up & it says it connects but still cant get in to the setup page to configure it. It's as iff all the default information in it has been wiped, Does anyone have any more ideas or do you think i'm as well just buying a new one ?

Thanks

Joe

I have a cable modem and 2 computers. I am trying to connect a wired network, and I got a Fast Ethernet 10/100 5 port hub. Did I get the right thing to network these computers together? Also on the back where the ports are, it says the numbers above ports 1-5 and then an "uplink" port. How do I connect this thing? HELP!

There is a process called svchost.exe that takes up 97-99% of my CPU usage each time i start my notebook or connect to the internet. This happens for 5-10 minutes each time. The pc just hangs, and after 5-10 minutes, its back to normal. Anyone knows what is wrong?

I have a wireless network set up in my home, however, whenever I connect to it from my laptop, the desktop computer loses internet connection. The laptop then is unable to connect to the internet via the network. Whenever I connect to any other wireless network, I can access the internet just fine. I currently have a modem, netgear router, 2 ethernet and many other cables. Do you have any idea of how I could set up this network and be able to connect to it from my laptop and access the internet without harming the desktops accessibility to the internet ruined.
