You cannot use a hub to connect 2 computers to the cablemodem and share the internet. You could if you had 2 network cards in one computer and then connected one network card to the cablemodem and one to the hub. Then the 2nd computer to the hub. You are missing a router - which is a device that routes traffic between the internal IP addresses your internal network is composed of.
Go to the store and get a router - I recommend netgear, but whatver brand is ok. Use that instead of the hub. Hubs are dumb and prone to collisions. I prefer to use a switch where a hub is located because they are smarter.

Yes you got the right thing. Ports 1 to 5 allow you to connect up to 5 computers. Just connect the network cable of one of your computers (the one that is connected to Cable currently) to the hub in one of the ports (port 1 is sensible!), and the Cable connector should go into the uplink port.
Now connect the second pc to port 2.
That should do it
If you still cant work it out, see the manual for the product you bought - most of them are available on the web, see a few below (I dont know which one you bought)

I believe you hook the ethernet cable from your modem to the uplink port, and hook the computers to any of the other available ports. This isn't the safest network setup to use, I would have purchased a 5 port router instead. It would work the same way but its built in firewall provides additional protection.

What brand is the router???
Most internet providers will assist you in the hook up and testing. Call your internet provider.
You could also ask where you purchased the router.
There should be a tech. help phone no. in the instructions for the router.
In most cases you will need help setting ports, setting your modem to the router etc. Call for help!!!!
