Is your computer directly connected to the internet ?

If yes ... Check the ip address of the computer,

4.Click Install
5.Click Protocol
6.Click Add

Sounds like you are connected using an ethernet connection.

1. Start -> Run -> TYPE cmd and hit the Enter key
2. You are now in a command window. Type
ipconfig /release Enter key
Type
ipconfig /renew Enter key

EXIT Enter key

Your IP should renew itself. If it does not renew it will gives you an IP address of 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.???.???
This means you do not have a connection and need to contact the network provider.

If the modem is directly connected to your laptop, try pulling the power and waiting a few seconds then plugging it back in. If you go through a router, try the same with that.
