I think you will have to set up a network first.
I've got a Netgear Router too and it's great.
I'll look into this and update this answer later today (3rd August).

So long as the machines are networked (ie sharing an internet connection) then you should be able to put the file into the Shared Files folder of Windows XP.
Click on Start and My Computer and you should see Shared Folders there. If not, you may have to turn on "File and Printer Sharing"

You do need to set up a network. Windows has an "expert" to help you do this. Look under "My Network Places" and then "Set up a Small Home of Office Network."

You don't have to setup a network to share files. you just need to enable sharing on the folders you want to see.
in windows explorer find the folder you want to share and right click on it. select "sharing and security" and read the options. select the one that you want and click ok.
