i can't figure out what's wrong with my laptop. all the other computers in our house work fine (with wireless cards), but mine keeps resetting the connection. when it's connected, it says the connection is "excellent" and everything is fine, but then it resets the connection every 1-5 minutes, even when i am in the same room as the router. i looked for updated drivers (the computer is a Dell Inspiron 700m, with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter) but there wasn't anything that looked like it would help. anyone have any ideas?

Try the following things
1. Try Rebooting your laptop
2. Try repairing your wireless connection (Right Click on the connection and say 'repair')
If the above options dont work then try this
3.Try giving your laptop a static IP address that is in the same subnet as that of the Router and then connect again.
I hope the above two steps will definately work. Before trying the third step please mail me.

Even though supposedly wireless should in theory work properly, that's not always true. Lots of time different manufacturer's have hard time connecting to wireless network of a different brand. I've had difficulties similiar to ones that you have described. I've a DLINK router and a netgear wireless card. I too installed the latest drivers but had no luck. I even tried updating all the software patches for my Windows but still no luck.

MY guess is maybe a different wireless card may have a better luck on your network instead of your current one.

Insure that in the advanced properties of the wireless card you do not have the settings set to allow the computer to turn off the wireless to save power, and some wireless cards also have a configuration for auto power down after x number of minutes of non activity

Easy fix just had this prob with my HP zv5000 series laptop the other day.

Just uninstall all drivers and Wireless LAN interface programs and restart, and then reinstall all drivers and interfaces from Dell website in your case, then restart...should work fine then. Has something to do with programs that modify network connections for bandwidth purposes.

i used to have the same problem.

but if you're in the same room it's worse.

your other computers are sending a 2.4GHz signal to your router, which your computer is also sending. when two of the same frequencies overlap, they mess each other up. so try not using the other computer, and see if it works. if it still doesnt work, you may need to update the firmware and drivers, or the product may be malfunctional (not likely)
