I play a popular online game alot, and if you join too many games in too fast of a time period you'll get an IP ban from the game server for a while.

I downloaded a program called SMAC that spoofs your MAC address (software side) and will randomly assign a new one. I'm curious as to how this plays at IP address assignment. Sometimes I get a null IP address.

I have Verizon DSL w/ a wireless westell modem. I have a Mac (OS 9) and Windows hooked up to the wireless modem for Internet.

I recently upgraded from a wired modem to the wireless one. When I had the wired modem, everything worked great on both computers: web, email, and AOL IM.

Since I upgraded to the new modem, AOL Instant Messenger will not work on either computer. It keeps saying, "Searching for service." Web and e-mal work fine on both.

Verizon technical support refuses to help, saying they don't support AOL IM. Obviouslly it worked before on both of these computers. My mother has the same service and the same modem-- aol im works fine for her.

Side note: My FTP program has not worked since I got the new modem also. It also says, "searching for files." I'm not as worried about that program as I am the AOL IM.

How can I make AOL IM work? I appreciate any help. And yes, I always come back to read what people have posted. Thanks for any help.

I want to have wireless internet connection on my laptop in my apartment, but I do not want to have a base PC. Is it possible to create a network where it is just my wireless laptop and the wireless router? If yes, is there any specific equipment (other than the connection itself and a modem) that I need in addition to a wireless card and wireless router?

I work in a mom and pop used computer store where we sell and fix computers, and I have my own small biz on the side. I'd have more time now, and I'd like to branch out.
I do "geek squad" type stuff with my small biz, but I'd like to add Web design and support most things that have to do with the Internet.
I don't have any real experience with servers of any kind, neither hardware or software, neither Windows or Linux. I have a limited capacity to learn new things, and the server support market seems saturated, whereas I get a lot of requests for Web design that I can't satisfy.
Do I really have to include server support to remain viable if I completely branched out on my own?

Hi,

I have a Speedstream 6500 wifi box and I recently got my broadband. I have 2 laptops - my home one and my office. My home laptop asks me for a WEP key when it finds my network. I do not remember ever setting a WEP key for it. My office laptop strangely has picked up the wifi at home and has WEP key automatically picked up. I have checked the router box for WEP key details and accessed the router thru admin login but I am yet to find the WEP key ?

Pls help me on
- How do I find the WEP key ?
- If not, how can I shut the wifi from asking me the WEP key

I am giving a technical presentation on how firewalls affect applications, so would like to be able to setup something basic on an old x86 (Linux-based maybe) in a network lab. Remote administration (browser-based would be best) is necessary.

I don't need a desktop firewall like ZoneAlarm, but rather some software that could be installed on an old x86 and this box would be plugged into a switch or router.

Something with a GUI interface would be preferred, but I only really need the abilty to block IP/ports based on source and destination IP, and possibly NAT.

Thanks!

My problem with this is, once I open it, it asks for my password. Despite entering the correct username and password it fails to open. Over and over it asks for the same info, then tells me the folders can not be opened.

Does anyone know how to bypass this?

Ps I'm using a pc in work, so its prob on a network.
