Computer Networking - August 2006

I run network magic wizard on my computer and it tells me it does not support my network.

Am not understanding the concept of a server computer well. Is the server computer, a computer that just stands alone, processing things alone, and therefore can't be used like other ordinary work computers?
Or can an employee use a server computer to do basic office stuff like email, word, ect?

The company I will be working for is very small and I will be doing other duties besides working with the network. I really was just looking for input from anyone so that I can be prepared when I walk in the first day.

I have both my old and new notebooks linked using a crossover cable, but where do I physically put the files I want to move from one computer to the other? The computers seem to appear in the "my network places" window, but do I put the files in the "shared files" folder on the hard drive? Any help is appreciated!

when i search "my network places" i don't see anything there while before it showed available wireless networks. i found a download for a wireless network driver on the gateway website but i don't know if that's what i need. i'm not sure what drivers are, just notice it's for a wireless network driver.

I have a computer w/ personal picts on it, but my video driver is messed up and may need to reinstall XP on my desktop. I would like to copy these picts over to a different computer, however I can't access it, much less have never done it. Please Help

I have a dell inspiron E1505, I use intel proset wireless and it keeps going from excellent to poor then disconnects and thats it.....I hate it!! how can I fix this bad problem!! Please help me ... 10 points for best answer which fixes this problem. Thanks!!

I have DirectWay and have a wireless router. I recently hardwired my computer in because I kept losing signal. The distance between my computer and the router is about 30 ft. But since I hardwired my computer in, it seems slower than when I ran the wireless adapter, i.e downloading videos and music. I was under the impression that wired was faster. What gives????

I've been having problems with my network card and internet in general. I can connect to Mozilla Firefox no problem, but no other connections work including iTunes, Internet Explorer, or Real Player. How would I make things right? Is there a configuration problem? Or could I just reset it to factory settings?
