Hi I hope someone can help me. I have a Toshiba Portege 7010CT Laptop computer with Windows XP. I also have a desktop computer. I bought a router and my desktop is hooked up to my router but I cannot get my Laptop to recognize the internet connection. My only real question is do I need a network card and if not how can I get my Laptop to recognize my internet connection ? I connect to the internet VIA cable modem. Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

i just got a new router and a new wireless card for my computer. All works fine with my computer but my roommates computers won't get the internet, and the status says "limited or no connectivity" but they are still connected to the network. Does anybody have any suggestions???

I'm waiting on my router to be delivered, so I had a poke around in my new laptop. Suddenly it said 'Internet Established' so I opened IE (haven't installed FF yet) and I really was online. It turned out the laptop had connected to an open network. I'm presuming it picked up a signal from my neighbor - or something. Is riding their Internet illegal if it's open?

Ok, so I just upgraded my DSL to static IP business class in the hopes that I would be able to use my linux server downstairs as a web server without having to run a cable to it.

So here is what I know about SBC DSL. It isn't true static IP. Apparently, the block of 8 useable addresses assigned to you are provided via some strange configuration of PPPoE.

So if you want to connect any of your systems to the internet, you can use one of the 5 "useable" addresses with most routers. Why? Because the routers usually will not support a configuration where they manage the PPPoE connection and then allow you to static route the 5 IP addresses assigned to you to computers on your internal Lan.

So..does anyone know of a wireless router which will do the following all at the same time?
1. Establish a PPPoE connection on behalf of the network.
2. Allow static routing of up to 5 additional IP addresses to internal computers. While still working as a DHCP server for other systems?

Can someone kindly tell me what exactly a domain controller is? What is it used for in a network? What programs does it store and how is it used in a network? For example, is it used as a gateway? Do you put all your applications like games or word processors there? Do you connect it directly to a router?

Can someone care to explain it in simple terms but yet detail enough for me to understand?

Thanks a lot.

Two PCs are connected in through network driver (100Mbs). If I works on an Excel file (200kb) in PC1 (which is also in PC2) and want to save these changings in PC2, what should I do
(1) Delete the old file from PC2 and paste updated file form PC1 to PC2 through Networking?
(2) Or copy the file from PC1 and overpaste it on the same file in PC2 through Networking?

Well we recently our internet went out on both of our Computers in the house, so we called Comcast and had them come here and try to fix it, but they ended up not finding the problem, so they told us to try buying new network cards, well this did not work. So he got us a new modem and got the internet work on one computer by using a USB cable. Now I'm wondering if I can get a USB hub to split my internet to both computers. Does anyone know if this would work? And also is there some stupid Comcast rule that does not allow you doing this?
