when i search "my network places" i don't see anything there while before it showed available wireless networks. i found a download for a wireless network driver on the gateway website but i don't know if that's what i need. i'm not sure what drivers are, just notice it's for a wireless network driver.

First of all, learn some grammar skills :)

After that, go to your control panel, and double click "Network Connections". You should have one there that says something like "Wireless Connection 1". Right click on it and click on "Enable" if it is there. If not, click on "disable" and then right click on it again and choose "repair".

Also, some laptops have wireless LAN switches on the outside of the case that turn on/off the wireless network adapter. Look for this on your laptop and make sure that it is in the "on" position.

OK no little mon thingy means the system don't feel network device, it is a hardware problem at root, wireless while convenient when it's working, a monkey to troubleshoot when it is not working, if the device is external type (either card or USB) remove the device and insert again, see what is happening.

Go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager, if there is a problem with the device it will show up there, usually if that is the case, reinstall driver for it.

Well, its not supposed to be in My Network Places. It should be under Network Connections. You should see if the wirelss card is disabled or not.
