I cannot add the domain administrators group to the ntfs security on a file on a member server (Win2K3) It says there is no such group or object?

When you look at Built in Users in Active Directory, there is an administrators group, but that is not an option to add to the ntfs permissions of a member server. THe server is a member of the domain, and the computer account is present and enabled. Thanks

NO error message, when I right click select security tab, then click add, I type adminsitrators and I get a box explaining that a group user or built in object called administrators cannot be found. DNS is not an issue, other groups and objects can be selected easily. I can even select individual users. This is a new windows file server to replace a failed NAS box. The NAS box screwed the permissions and the backups do not have permissions set properly either. I want anyone who is a members of the administrators group to have full control over all files.

What do you mean you cannot add them? Does it find the group when you click "check names"? Are you getting an error message of some sort? Are you selecting the domain name as the source? Make sure that the member server is pointing to a domain controller for its DNS.

Make sure when you are searching for Domain Admins that you are searching via the domain that the Domain Admins group is in and not the local server. There should be an option that lets you pick where to search.

I thought it was "Domain Admins".

Edit: No, you want "Domain Admins", not "Administrators"
