I am running two p.c's from one modem which is a D-link DSL-502T (broadband). I have moved my older P.C (8 years old) to a room directly above the other P.C(2 years old) and modem. The extension cable I am using is a USB V2.0. I cannot get the internet connection on the older p.c in the above room.. The line I have between the two rooms is blue cable. Is it possible to run the older p.c through the blue cable or do I need another line? If so what kind of line would I use? The distance is 15metres or approx 35 feet.

What kind of ethernet cabling will I need to connect two computers with 10/100 NICs? Will I need cat5 or crossover cabling?

Also, will I need a hub or other extra equipment, or can I simply make a direct connection?

I have a wireless network, and all the computers using it are PC's. Recently, however, I bought a Mac laptop. This laptop can see the network, but won't connect to it. I think the problem is that the laptop's IP address can't be seen by the router. Can I add it manually? How so?

i have a bt voyager 205 at the moment, which has 1 usb and 1 ethernet connection, but i want to upgrade to a either 1) 3 or more ports(ethernet) 2)3 or more ports and a wireless connection
what i need to do is a connection to 1)main p.c 2) bedroom p.c 3) wireless laptop(but could be wired connection)
when installing all of these would it be the same way as i have my 2 p.c,s allready(installed router software on main p.c and then installed spftware on bedroom p.c),so would i just run the software through my laptop?
also with more and more computers connected to a single router do i loose bandwidth?
thank you

My laptop is a dell inspiron 1300 (i know, cheap) but i have connected it to my network wireless server before from the same position relative to the transmitter.
When i search for nearby servers my laptop says i may have had my wireless switch turned off.
The thing is, I don't have a switch. I have tried to connect while my other PC was online and offline but no difference - can you help me?

Our company is trying to set up a vpn router and recently found that when connecting to the network over it the router can only remote connect to desktops using ip addresses. This is a Linksys VPN router and we are looking for one comparable to it in price. Is there a router out there under $1000 that can allow users to remote into their desktops from home using domain aliases and not ip addresses. Such as instead of connecting to 192.168.0.1 they could connect to "companycomputer1". Any help would be most appreciated.
