Sorry, not really possible if you want to be able to connect to the internet. Like the other guy said, at some point,you're going to have to connect the WAP or WAPs to a router unless you buy a router that has wireless built-in to it.
Don't cheap-out on your hardware. You'll wind up paying more in the end.

I have personally not tried the ad-hoc mode, but I did find a article when I was investigating different ways to network computers. I currently use a wireless router and still think it is the best way to go, but here is the address for the article (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx).

Somewhere along the line you are going to have to have a router to be able to route the wireless signal to other PCs.
