I recently got my laptop (3 months ago) and I noticed that there is a problem with the screen's backlight. Whenever I turn on my computer the screen's brightness level goes all the way down. This also happens after I unplug my computer from it's charger. I tried a windows restore and it didn't help. I've also looked in the control panel for a way to fix this minor problem, but I couldn't find a solution. When I originally bought this laptop, it didn't have this problem. It started about 1 month after purchasing it. What can I do to adjust the setting???

I want to damage files on a CD so no one can steal them when they go in the garbage (can they be recylced?).

How effective is scratching the CD? I know it happens by accident with little viable damage...and there's some CD that have gone through hell and run without a problem.

If it is effective, whats the best way to do it? Deep, a certain direction? All over and not just in one area?

Is there anyway people can still get to the files after scratching them real good...?

If an image is 1024x768 pixels with 3 bytes/pixel and uncompressed. How long does it take to transmit it over a 56kbps modem? How do you calculate this problem? I am not looking for the answer, just the equation. Thanks.

-I do not have a wireless router, it is just a cable hooked to my modem hooked to my computer

-On ipconfig it says that I have only an ip adress and a subnet mask and the physical adress

-My subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

-I have comcast so I put in comcast's dns suffix adress: hsd1.ut.comcast.net, but it still didn't work so im not using it.

-I have tried copying the Ip adress, Gateway, and subnet mask and stuff from this laptop but it still won't work

The virus is always going to yourgift.com on Win XP. AVG can't get it out. An ad comes saying you can get rid of it for a fee. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Okay here goes, I have completely erased my hard drive, re-installed the OS, acquired all of the necessary updates for the OS. Installed updates for the drivers i need, have AVG 7.5 anti virus protection running. I run scan disk on it and keep temporary internet files deleted, cookies dumped, and analyze my hard drive once a week for a defrag and do it if needed.

My system runs sooooo slow even though i do all of these things.

I did a free registry scan and it shows almost 300 invalid registry items. Is there a way to remove these items without purchasing a new program?

OR.... is this not my problem? Please help.

I had a desktop hooked directly to DSL.... I am moving the Desktop computer to another room that doesnt have a phone jack.

Can I have the DSL hooked to a router in the original room and then have the Desktop computer running wireless DSL in the other room.

In other words, when I hook the DSL into the router, does it have to be hooked into another computer in the same room?

Although technically not "supported", does it work?

I built a system for someone last christmas with a nforce chipset. The bridge came with the motherboard. They made it clear not to loose it or I was SOL for SLI. With crossfire you get a bridge with the card(at least with some of them). So if you bought a 680i board and two 2900xt cards... What else do you have to do?

It can and has been done:

http://www.techpowerup.com/index.php?39252

Why bother? Because the 2900xt is $140 cheaper than a 8800GTX. That is $280 when you buy two. After much research the nVidia 680i is the best motherboard chipset out for the core2, and after further research I do not see a $140 performance difference between an 8800GTX. In fact in some areas the 2900xt is much faster.

Not only that it would share the wealth to all three companies: Intel, AMD/ATI, and nVidia. No one would get hurt feelings and you'd be loyal to all three! Everyone is a winner. Just like kindergarten again! LOL!

I bought my laptop in May, and have a wireless network now with three laptops and a desktop. The HP Pavilion DV9205US has Windows Vista (the only one of the four). I didn't care for Vista that much anyway, and was wondering if it would be worth my while to roll back the windows version to XP professional.

I'm looking for a freeware program to scan and fix my Windows XP registry. I've downloaded 2 programs that looked free, but both scanned my system and asked me to pay money to fix it. Is there a program that will do this that is freeware? If so, where can I get it?
