I chose not to have a big party for my 15th (personal reasons) so my parents said i can have a laptop and a bunch of other stuff. I need some help choosing the RIGHT laptop for me. The brand needs to be really good like Dell or HP and a price around $500-800. Thanks to any helpful answers :]

Everybody has their favorites, and my wife has an HP laptop that runs like a top. She only turns it off when she is travelling, it's on all the rest of the time, never given her any trouble.

Well, first I would recommend the HP (Dells are pretty bottom-of-the-bucket next to Gateway and Acer). Second, make sure it meets the following specs:
-1 GB RAM
-250-320 GB HD
-128 MB VRAM (sometimes known as video RAM, the graphics chip, or the GPU)
- CD±RW/DVD±RW optical drive
- 12"-15" LCD/LED screen (some computer companies might not carry LED screens on their laptops currently, so go with the LCD; the main difference is that LED is powered by a backlight emmiter and is supposedly better for the environment)
- Wifi a/b/g/n ready, Bluetooth+EDR 2.0 card
- 2.0 GHZ Intel Core Duo processor, 1.6 AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core processor
- Windows XP Home SP 2/Windows Vista Home Premium
- USB 2.0/Firewire IEEE 1394 ports
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES:
-Webcam
- anti virus/anti spyware software

Don't get a Dell, they are by far the worst brand of computer their is. They may have been fine years ago when they first game out, but since then have really gone down the tubes. HP, is a great choose, they have the best tech support and you wont be sorry.

i got a dell latitude D600 for $400 not to lonog ago and i havent had any problems
