I have a dell laptop and a small laptop mouse i've been using for a few months.. today the mouse stopped working for no reason. What could be the problem? The computer recoginzes there's a device in but names it not recognized. The box says it malfuntioned or somthing. I tried to reinstall driver, windows update, and troubleshoot but nothing has worked.

Try the mouse on another computer. (it will save you a lot of time and headaches) If it does NOT work on the other computer, throw it way and buy another one.
If it works then keep troubleshooting. Some viruses disable some devises. If that is not it, try windows restore or drivers from Dell

The mouse is on the edge of overpowering the finite amount of electricity in the USB bus, that requires a self-powered hub to remedy this.

If it is wireless, change the battery in the mouse.
