I bought my laptop in May, and have a wireless network now with three laptops and a desktop. The HP Pavilion DV9205US has Windows Vista (the only one of the four). I didn't care for Vista that much anyway, and was wondering if it would be worth my while to roll back the windows version to XP professional.

I have been working on the same thing all weekend. Hardware should be compatible and XP should have the appropriate drivers. As long as the network card works so you can download drivers that are needed if you do run into something not working, but typically everything works for one OS generation back.

The problem comes when you actually try to do the reformat or boot from CD. I have been working on this unsuccessfully. Vista won't let me do either; boot directly from the CD or do a dual boot and run xp only and reformat the vista drive. I'm still working on it. If anyone knows the trick, I'm all ears.

If the laptop came with Vista, XP drivers may not be available for it. It may be pricey if you have to buy a windows XP license.
