-I do not have a wireless router, it is just a cable hooked to my modem hooked to my computer

-On ipconfig it says that I have only an ip adress and a subnet mask and the physical adress

-My subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

-I have comcast so I put in comcast's dns suffix adress: hsd1.ut.comcast.net, but it still didn't work so im not using it.

-I have tried copying the Ip adress, Gateway,and subnet mask and stuff from this laptop but it still won't work

Your settings should all be set to automatic.

If your modem isn't sending you a valid IP you will have to contact Comcast for a correction within the system.

Set it all to auto on your computer, THEN unplug the modem for at least one full minute, Then reapply power to the modem and wait for it to show a connection.. then see if you have an IP.. If not CALL COMCAST.

A firewall can cause that type of issue, so disable that if you have one. If your running Win XP with SP2, goto a command prompt (start, run, type "cmd" and press enter) then in the black window type "netsh w r c" and press enter, reboot and see what happens

reset it unplug cable line from modem,unplug power cord.wait 25 sec.
plug everything back.
