My building has wifi. I've always kept my laptop on my own, private network, so I'm not so familar with security things of this sort. Anyway. I have a huge spyware problem after three days. My computer is real slow, and I get a relevant popup (a bank if I'm searching for banks, some entertainment thingy if I'm on myspace, etc) every two or three minutes. It's dang inconvenient, and I'm worried about the health of my computer.

I have Norton, although it hasn't been updated recently, and use Windows EXP. My computer's an Inspiron.

Everytime i connect a ps2 port keyboard to this computer, the "w" key doesn't function. (I've doen this with multiple keyboards) The only way i can use the letter is by pasting it whenever i need to type the key. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem, or how to fix it?

I've got a limit of 5GB incoming traffic and 2GB outgoing traffic per week. I'm also worried about downloads, but I'm not talking about P2P, I torrent. They do say, however, that they don't monitor the CONTENT of the traffic, just the amount. So I'm wondering - am I screwed if I spend 2-3+ hours a day browsing the internet and most importantly.. gaming? Are they telling me I can't play WoW because the amount of data coming in and out mirrors that of a student downloading album after album from Limewire? Could anyone clear this up? Am I just intrepreting this the wrong way? I also don't want to call the desk because the last thing I want to do is raise a red flag and have the tech deparment red-flag me.

Your thoughts? Am I just being paranoid or is this something to worry about?

I'm trying to use a website, but I keep getting a message telling me to disable my ad-blockers, or else the site won't work. Up until today, I didn't have an ad-blocker, and I wasn't aware I had one installed at all! How do I disable the ad-blocker?

I write a lot of DLL’s and stand alone apps in visual C++ 6. I like it because the apps are compact. Also I can run them on any version of Windows without the need to install them. I can compile a fix, and send the .EXE file to someone to test it, without having to create a while new install, until I am ready for a new release.

If you are a former Visual C++ 6 user, what do you think of 8? Can you make native .EXE files, that don’t require the bulky .NET framework, like C#? Do the files have to be JITT’ed?

If you are a professional developer, do you stick with Visual C++ 6?

What do you think of C#? Do you use both C# and C++?

Hello, I have recently been converted to using Firefox, but after a few days use I begun doing my typical ad-aware/ spy bot scans and I had a massive amounts of ad-ware, cookies and such.
Now, I was told that Firefox was less subtable to malware, and that was the reason for my "conversion" but EVIDENTLY, this is not so... Is there nothing I can do to cut down on all these cookies/ ad-things I am receiving? I love the browser, it seems faster- and it's customizable. Maby there is an add-on I can install to cut down on these things? Please someone help. :)

I've tried two different set of speakers, so that's not the problem. When I plug the speakers in, it comes up as no audio device.

I have a newly built computer with a P5k deluxe mobo (won't boot to windows vista 64 installation CD). I've tried just about everything (boot device order, DVD drive jumpers, switching memory, booting from winXP, ubuntu, and a used hard drive, using a different dvd drive, resetting CMOS, upgrading BIOS) i think i may have messed up while installing the heatsink.. could abnormally high temperatures be causing the error message: "reboot and select proper boot media or insert boot media in selected boot device a press a key"?

I have Microsoft XP in my laptop and partitioned the hard drive with 3 partitions. I would like to take about 3 gigs from the second partition and add to the first partition. The first partition (C:) is the boot partition. I need to add more space to C: since i am running out of space on it. How do I add more from D: to C: using windows storage utility? Partition magic does not to it since I only have 747 MB of space on C:. Please help. Thanks.

I have an HP pavilion dv2000 series laptop. with intel centrino duo processor... I see in the specs that it have a nvidia graphic card... but how can I see the size of the graphic card in my computer? I am installing windows xp on a new hard disk, and want to get files from my old hard disk with the same windows xp on it. The old hard disk had problems booting windows xp. How can I put both hard disks in my computer and copy the files i want from my old hard disk to the new one without doing anything to mess things up?

Well each tim I put the monitor on the 1024 by 768 resolution, all four sides are stretched out and curved so you cant see them, I know how to adjust it using the monitor settings buttons on the monitor but it won' move at all

because of this I am forced to use 800 by 600 resolution

will reseting the monitor solve this problem? Or is there a way to change the settings so that it supports the bigger resolution?

Hi, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend, who's running XP.

He's having issues with the size of everything on his computer, it's like everythings been blown up.

We've tried everything - fiddling with the monitor, changing the text/window size in properties, and we've tried changing the resolution but it won't move from 600 x 480.

It's been like this for some time.
