How much will they cost.Do ordinary people buy them or are they for hard core tough jobs.

They cost a lot. $3000 for a decent one. You buy one when you're going to abuse the hell out of it. You can drop it on concrete and not hurt it. I got an OK used one on ebay for $250. There are a lot of used ones from phone companies and such for sale.

Well Tougbooks are a line of mobile computers that are designed to take a beating on a regular basis while still providing good computing power. If you have a desk job or something that doesnt pose a lot of risk to a laptop, do not buy one of these as you will be paying for something you do not need. These start around 2000 USD and run up to around 4500 i believe. They are laptops that just have tough cases for more intense conditions. They are shock resistant, water proof and stuff like that. If you are very mobile with your laptop, as in you travel a lot or take it to job sites, this is a good investment because you basically need to try to damage one of these.

They are basicly sold to industries that need a durable computer under adverse conditions. They are extremely expensive, in the 3-5000 dollar range.
