At the moment it is running way to slow, i have done a disk clean up and disk de-frag. A virus scan has shown up nothing. I have deleted cookies and temporary files. Is there anything else i can try as its not running as it should?

I crashed my computer last night and can't even get it to boot up. I keep getting an error message that says that some "explorer.exe" file is missing or something and should be reinstalled to fix problem. Then my wallpaper comes up, but that's it... NO desktop icons or anything. It won't boot at all. I tried to go "restore" going to F10, but it asks for some Administrator Password or something and none of my passwords work. I have no idea what they're talking about.

I would hate to have to reformat my entire hard drive, but even if that was the last resort, I don't think I could do it without being able to boot.

Would it help to try to get to "safe mode"? If so, how would I do that and what do I do once I get there?

Please, someone that actually knows about computers - help! I am running Windows XP Home edition. Thanks. Jeff

I want to work with a video using windows movie maker but when I try to import my video I can't do it. Is it possible to just have one video-friendly file like mpeg or something like that? When I double click on the dvd icon the video plays, but when I click on one of these sub files, I can't get anything to play. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

Hi guys !

I am planning to build a PC. I searched many forums and sites and discussed with friends etc to find a perfect system configuration for me.

To be honest, I had a difficult time choosing the best manufacturer for each components.. I even posted so many questions in Yahoo answers itself. Many Good guys helped me.

Here is my final configuration :

Intel E6850 Processor
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi AP Motherboard
1 GB DDR2 (800 Mhz) Memory X 2 (Total 2 GB in dual channel)

XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb XXX edition Graphics Card

160GB Seagate SATA Hard Disk
Sony DVD Writer
LG 17" Monitor

A good Cabinet with good ventilation
PSU 450W or 500W

I personally think that it is a good, Stable, reliable, Durable Configuration which runs at high efficiency with high performance.

What do you think guys? Any suggestions on motherboard or another components? Only after getting reply from at least five people, i will confirm this configuration.

I am upgrading from 256Mb of PC2100 to 2x512Mb of PC3200 memory. Happy to do into the BIOS and adjust settings, if I knew the correct ones to adjust. HP do not have a BIOS update for this machine.

My question is if I will be able to connect it to my tv via an s-video cable or any other type of cable to watch videos from the laptop. Because my old toshiba satellite laptop is able to do just that by right clicking on the desktop>properties>settings>display>and then toggling the tv option. But I don't know if i will be able to do this on a windows vista computer.

Hi,

I'm building a new computer and i don't know which graphics card is best for my pc without my processor bottlenecking it. The processor i'm using is an Intel Pentium 3 Tualatin 1.4GHz. Any idea what's the best nvidia 6 series card for this cpu? i don't want to waste money on a card that will be bottlenecked.

In movies and criminal tv shows and series, when dealing with investigations in which they search the suspects' computers, sometimes we see that the computer specialist was able to restore deleted files. How is this possible ?
Lets say I save my word files and pictures for example in 'my documents' folder or on my desktop. When I delete them and empty my "trash" the files are deleted from 'my documents' or my desktop. And if I open my computer, then my 'C' folder/drive and 'my documents' from there, the files aren't there either.
The same with programs that are installed in the 'program files' folder. When I uninstall a program its files are deleted. Of course some programs leave a few files sometimes, but if you delete them they're supposed to be... well, deleted right ?
Is every file or program incoded in my comuter and saved in my 'windows' or 'system32' folders as well and THAT'S where computer experts find them after altering them to readable files ?

I have Fedora Core 6, Ubuntu and Ark Linux and a few Windows OSs. Which is better at web browsing and gaming? I love Linux but its a pain in the *** to get a dialup modem installed and to find games and programs for it. I cant get high speed internet where I live at dammit!!!!

If i wish to make copies of copyrighted material, such as music, movies, or video games, can i legally do so?
For example, if I own a CD that is valuable to me, and i want to keep it safe from being scratched, can i make a copy of that disc to use elsewhere?
The same situation for a movie.
Also, can i make a copy of a game from a cartridge to my computer for use in emulators?
Finally, if I own a physical copy of a CD or a DVD or a game, can i download a copy of that off of the internet? For all purposes of this being a reasonable question, say that my disc drives are broken and cannot load them onto my computer myself. Is it legal for me to download digital copies of materials i literally and legally own?
