If i wish to make copies of copyrighted material, such as music, movies, or video games, can i legally do so?
For example, if I own a CD that is valuable to me, and i want to keep it safe from being scratched, can i make a copy of that disc to use elsewhere?
The same situation for a movie.
Also, can i make a copy of a game from a cartridge to my computer for use in emulators?
Finally, if I own a physical copy of a CD or a DVD or a game, can i download a copy of that off of the internet? For all purposes of this being a reasonable question, say that my disc drives are broken and cannot load them onto my computer myself. Is it legal for me to download digital copies of materials i literally and legally own?
Thanks for all help in advance.

hell, if you own the real one you can make 10000000000 copies of the same thing as long if you keep it to your self.
so yea like i said, no matter if it is movies, games, porn, music you can download it aslong as you own it.

Not an expert, but I would say back up of your own copies is OK, and if actually not legal, not ever prosecuted.
Downloading a copy even if you own a copy is probably not legal.
As for the games, I would say they do not allow you to make any copies, regardless of the reason.

as far as illegal downloads of games/movies that you own a copy of, nope still illegal. Just because you own a car doesn't mean its ok to steal your neighbor's car?!

Outside of the network connection, what you do in your own home for private purposes is exempt. For commercial, public and non-private purposes, a single backup copy of copyrighted media is allowable if this is for reserve or protection purpose only. However you are still subject to copy protection schemes of the media producer which may limit your ability to actually make a working copy.

Usually, you are allowed to make only one copy for back up purposes. For CDs, you are allowed to rip it into your own personal computer but NOT into a computer in a network, such that it can assessed by other people.

Illegal downloads are illegal no matter what.
