hiya, try this; http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/ go to XP FAQs and scroll down to number 117 'how to reinstall system restore' hopefully it will solve your problem, John Barnett has got me out of a few scrapes in the past, he certainly knows his stuff, take care and good luck.

I got a different error message when I tried to do my system restore. I checked with every Tekkie I could find, I tried to download the missing file, etc. But, in the end, the only thing I could do was to reinstall my Windows XP. Sorry. I tried to go into Explore but it won't let you get to the file.

no dont think so i think you may have a virus or something that has deleted the system restore option you might have to reinstall windows to completely rectify the problem

Thanks

Even more simply... start run... restore... then select the rstui icon.
