How do I get rid of sites like Lycos popping up?

When ever I go to Yahoo and type in like the Chicago Cubs, click on the site, it redirects me to Lycos dot com with other Cubs stuff. it is annoying.

Sounds like you could even have a virus.

In general switch to the Avant browser and enable the popup blocker. Alternatively run FireFox with AdblockPlus, FlashBlock and NoScript.

That should slow them down.

If you find that does not stop them then you can edit hosts file, depending on o/s it is in either /windows/system32/drivers/etc or /etc and define their domain as localhost which will stop any network access from going to their web site to pick up the adverts. Something like this

www.doubleclick.com localhost
www.x10.com localhost
www.lycos.com localhost
