I have Zoomtown IDSL, with a Belkin wireless router, 802.1g, with WEP on. I replaced a similar router that broke. The network monitor says that my signal strength is excellent and speed is 54.0.

My problem is that I keep dropping connection to a virtual private network that requires a constant signal. (This worked great with the previous router.)

Any thoughts on what I can do to stop this? I have changed the channel, and it still says that my signal strength is excellent.

Had trouble with booting up, so I repaired the boot.ini. I ran chkdsk /r and after that it booted up. It took forever to load and then restarted. This time it said that C:\windows\config\system32 was missing or corrupted. I finally format c: and reinstalled windows xp pro. Everything seemed to be going great and I started reloading programs, norton av first. Windows began downloading updates and I restarted a couple of times for that. The final windows update had 71 updates. I clicked on the shield at the bottom of the screen to begin updates and then went to watch tv. I went back to check it a few hous later and there were three error windows for corrupted files. I closed them out and tried to reboot and same thind as before. CHKDSK states that one or more files are corrupt and unrecoverable. Anyone have ideas on what to do know? Might be harware failure of some kind. Suggestions?

I have Windows Vista Business. I am located in UK but my family(siblings) is located in Asia. As they are novice in computer, I want to connect their machine remotely and set it up for proper protections against Adware, Spyware and like that. Even in that case i want to transfer some music files from my machine to theirs. How do i do that? They have Windows XP machines. I have tried to use Remote Desktop but it is asking DNS name and more. What should I provide to successfully connect their machine and transfer files? Any good software help to do this? Is it free?

Thanks.

1 Price, you can get a Mac Mini for $599. People complain about the specs and then when you show them a more powerful model they complain about the price. How much processing power do you need to surf the Internet, check emails and listen to MP3s?

2. Usability, the Mac OS is clearly better than Windows, Vista has ripped it off in several places. Just look at how many systems have ripped off Expose, Mac OS had it long before anyone else.

3. Security, There were 10,000+ viruses for Windows last year alone (don't ask me if that includes trojans, worms, etc). For OS X you can count the number of vulnerabilities on the fingers of one hand and it's been out there for over 5 years now. Most of the serious ones require physical access. Anyone connecting a Windows box to the Internet without a ton of 3rd party security is asking for trouble, just look at the

number of 'my computer is infected with a load of crap' threads, many of these have had trouble even with good firewalls and AV.

It's always exactly one hour, and does not correspond to daylight savings time. It just did it again this morning. Why does it do this, and how can I make it stop?

I'm currrently paying for Comcast Internet service @ 8 Mbps for $52.95

I can get Verizon DSL @ 1.5 Mbps for $31.99

I've heard that a lot of things affect the speeds and they aren't always as they seem (i.e. Comcast 5 times faster). Many things can affect the speed (how many other people are accessing the internet on your cable line or how far you are from the Verizon central office). Are the speeds really that different between the two companies?

Can someone shed some light? Opinions appreciated.
