1 Price, you can get a Mac Mini for $599. People complain about the specs and then when you show them a more powerful model they complain about the price. How much processing power do you need to surf the Internet, check emails and listen to MP3s?
2. Usability, the Mac OS is clearly better than Windows, Vista has ripped it off in several places. Just look at how many systems have ripped off Expose, Mac OS had it long before anyone else.
3. Security, There were 10,000+ viruses for Windows last year alone (don't ask me if that includes trojans, worms, etc). For OS X you can count the number of vulnerabilities on the fingers of one hand and it's been out there for over 5 years now. Most of the serious ones require physical access. Anyone connecting a Windows box to the Internet without a ton of 3rd party security is asking for trouble, just look at the
number of 'my computer is infected with a load of crap' threads, many of these have had trouble even with good firewalls and AV.

4. Specs, Macs are underpowered? Look at the higher-end Mac Pro at $2499
Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Xeon processors, 1GB memory,NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB, 250GB Serial ATA 7200-rpm HDD,16x double-layer SuperDrive.
That's better than the PC I'm using now.
5. Proprietry hardware, complete myth. You can use any graphics, sound cards, hard drives, DVD drives, etc that have the right connections
I've done it myself. The only caveat is you need an Apple branded optical drive to boot Apple discs.

The quickest answer is, people is afraid of the unknown
The real answer is, Knowledge.
Some people (if not all) tend to bash, or put down what they don't know, or what they are afraid of.
To me macs, Pcs, and linux distros, are all TOOLS, each one has an use, and when i need that one use, i just switch. and that's the concept most people fail to grasp.
You are not tied to a platform. they are all there for you too use. you just find one that suits your needs the better.
Why MS fans bash the Apple Fans? and viceversa?
Marketing. Have you seen the "I am A mac, and I am a pc" Ads? to me those are brainwashers for the community
Yet PC's ads are not like what can you dislike of the others, but what can you do with what you have or want to buy. Its a matter of Human perspective.
Chevy vs Ford
Mercedes vs BMW
Black and White
Rap vs Pop vs Rock
After they are just one useless thing:
Electronic devices who only understand '1' and '0'

The games comments always crack me up. While it is true there are more PC native games, there are HUNDREDS of Mac native games. PC users never see them however, because they usually browse the shelves in shops that don't sell any Apple products. So obviously they don't see Mac software.
More and more games are being ported to Mac, and all the bigs ones have been available for Mac for years: Halo, Doom, Unreal Tournament, AvP, Quake, etc.
The fact that anyone can take a modern Mac, boot straight into windows, and play all the games they want seems to still be a denial factor among PC fans.
As far as business goes, I wonder what business related apps there are that can't be had for a Mac. Our whole business is Mac. Seven Macs (one PC that will likely be replaced soon) all networked and running with a G5 as a server. No issues of any kind. The is only one, single PC app we have to use now and then, that isn't available for Macs: MS Publisher. So we just use a Mac with parallels, and open those files that way.

In Response To waltzme2heaven: What Programs Are You Using That Doesn't Have A (Superior) Mac Equivalent?! (My Little Pony: Look-At-Me-Draw- Perhaps?!) For fjpoblam: Your Profile Says Web Designer. What Web Designing Programs Are Not Available For The Mac Platform?! As For Price: I Agree, The Mac Does Cost More But, I Also Believe "You Get What You Pay For". If You Make Your Living On Your Computer- NO ONE IS ASKING YOU TO SWITCH. As For Games, Most Places That Carry Games Carry ONLY PC Games On The Shelves Because They Are Asked For More. The Same Ones Are Available For The Mac - You Just Have To Ask For Them (Most Of The Time They Have To Order Them)

I like the design of the Mac, but making movies does not intrest me and the price is a huge factor. A lot of programs are not supported by Mac, not any that i need now but maybe some that I will want in the future. I have no idea how to fix a Mac or navigate through a Mac and most people don't know how to use them at all. i couldn't connect to the internet on a Mac, but I know my way around XP like crazy.

Mac is in some ways better. Sort of like Harley and Honda. Granted Mac is not for everyone, PC is trying to copy a lot. Vista is a good example.
Apple is the first in a lot of things, I also remember when we ran apples in the Army.
I have a PC, I would rather have a Commodore. It did everything faster, and it seemed to let me tell it what to do easier. Now, its use a mouse, with no thinking at all.
Apple is like a Harley, PC is like a Honda to me.

In our society in general, people are afraid of change. PCs have been the norm for so long that no one wants to buy a mac, even if they are way better. It's taken some people so long to figure out how to use a computer that they think they will have to start over.
It has nothing to do with better or worse, just stubbornness and fear.
Maybe those commercials will help?
And keep talking about the benefits with everyone you know. Maybe we can change the world! :-P

I find your statements (question?) interesting. Now I will criticize, and believe me, I'm not trying to get on your case, because I've been curious and intrigued and TRYING to investigate!
Would you please post another question (statement?) and address these issues?
(1) Address the availability of software. For example, some of my very favorites and ESSENTIALs (for my profession - I need food and housing, que no?) will not run native on MacOS. Thus I'd be rather FORCED to fetch Parallels and Windows and all this extra software to run side-by-side...and thus I would almost certainly need a high-powered MacBook Pro.
(2) I investigated and priced the total of what I'd need and found that, to get Apple for my PC needs, it'd cost roughly 1.5 to 2 times as much!

people who have something against macs need to do their HW. I agree with you. Good Points! I guess word hasn't gotten around enough about the advantages of buying them. I think this might have to do with the fact that Steve Jobs just came back to apple, so macs will have to wait a litle while to get back into popularity. (Macs were popular in the 80s)

because of the price of a pc. for 599$ you can get a amazing pc. plus you can actually upgrade a PC from the time you buy it till the time you feel like buying a new one. on a mac mini, when it starts running slow or haivng problems, u have to throw it away and buy a new one. PC's are better. i do like macs though i cant complain to much, the custromer service is amazing. i just dont have the money at my young age to afford one
