Every 2 years I need to get my car smogged. Each time I get my cars engine timed it passes smog.

I would like to know what causes the engine to get out of timing to begin with and does it has anything at all to do with the distributor and points ? Thank you so much

I have a SWR meter for my cb radio. To be honest I'm not exactly sure how to use it, my dad just gave it to me, no instrunctions or antyhing. it has the meter, a switch for forwar and reverse(whatever that does), a calabrator knob, and an antenna in and cb out. How am I suppose to use this to calibrate my radio? My radio has a SWR meter built into the radio. I have calibrated it and it works fine. I'm running about 1:1 to !:7. it is a uniden pc78Elite. It also has a meter for recieving and sending built into my radio. Also I have an antenna light that turns on red when my vehicle is in motion but my calabrating remains the same? Why is that? My main question was is that when I connect the external SWR meter my radio will not send or receive above 3 puonds. Why is this? I hope im not too confusing. Im trying to use the little space I have for this question as best as I can. Thank You for your time.

Mechanic says that I should replace my hood because of the hood scoop which is hindering my power due to freezing my carburator. I find this weird since my problem has been happening during the summer. Is it possible that this can happen during any season?

I have been told this is very easy to install. I have purchased the OEM sensor with the plug in tip, so no wiring needed. I need to do this to pass an emissions test and update my registration. A step by step guide would be incredibley useful.

A few times, when quickly accelerating, my car will sort of sputter. It is only for a moment and then it's fine. It doesn't do this every time, but occasionally. My check engine light was on and they discovered it was an EGR fluid code. The mechanic couldn't do it so I need to go somewhere else. I was wondering, is there a connection between these problems? How bad is this going to hurt (price)

thanks!
Lisa

Okay this is bizarre. Here is my question. I have an '05 Dodge Neon.' When I dropped my girl off at school earlier it didnt wanna start (It had a starter bad like noise. When I turned the key it clicked ~not turning over~) It wasn't the battery cause it had good wattage... SO! I popped the clutch and got it started that way. Ever since then it has been starting fine. Granted it does need an oil change (Over due by almost 2,000 miles) but i don't think that has anything to do with the starter.... Does it? Do I need to take it to the shop....? What do you guys/girls think out there???

I have an 88 dodge dakota, it's making a hissing noise under the dash, when I press the brake pedal it stops, everyone's telling me it's the booster, and it makes sense. But before I go and replace it I'd really like to be sure.
Also; what can go wrong if I do it myself? Is it just a part that you buy and then swap out? Or is it more complex? Can I do it myself?
I'm a student, so I'm REALLY poor, if I absolutely had to I could save for a few months and have a mechanic do it, but I'd really rather do it myself.

Which would be more on fuel and would it be better in the long run just to keep her running to save wear and tear, like battery, carby, coil, starter motor, oil and fuel lines, radiator...?

I woke up this morning to find that someone hit my car and knocked off the driver side mirror.
I won't have money to pay the 400-600 to get it fixed for a little while here.
Can anybody reccomend me a type of glue to fix it, or what kind of tape would work best?

Car used no oil (had 37,000 on engine), but noticed that suddenly at the 2 year mark, it needed 1/3 of a quart.

Was the engine harmed (no leaks, so what happened to the oil?)??

I have not done any real work on cars for a number of years. The occational alternator and oil changes. I would like to know if I could pull off doing this timing belt thing on my own. Is there that much to it? Does it take any wierd tools? Or would it be easier to pay someone to do it. I have all the basic tools for regular maintenace. Does the car need to be re-timed when I am done?

I had my Jaguar s-type worked on but I think they left something off. Should there be something between the grille and the radiator? I think it was just for looks, but it looks rather empty in there now. Maybe I'm mistaken...does anyone know?

This is for the front brakes, the threads for one of the bolts that hold the caliper in place are stripped and I guess my only option is to replace the part that had the threads, but I don't know what it is called.
