I switched over to Mobil one synthetic oil in all my rigs. I found that by doing this, I managed to get at least double the mileage on them with no apprecaiable wear to the motor. I averaged around 125,000 miles on my engines when using regular oil and started having problems. With Mobil one, I average over 250,000 trouble free miles, and when I sell my vehicles, the new owners get many many more miles out of them. I saw the studies Mobil did on their lubricants back in the 70's and I have never regretted switching over. I buy it in 5 gallon containers at walmart for around $27.00, this is a little more than oil would cost, but you get to go farther in between oil changes so this off sets the extra cost, plus the life of the motor is increased dramatically.
My wifes nissan van lasted 300,000 iles before I traded it off. My last chevy 4x4 truck went 285,000 miles when I sold it, my jeep went almost 300,000 miles and my current chevy 4x4 truck ( a 1994) has almost 245,000 miles on it and has been trouble free.

Mobile1 full synthetic is probably the best oil you can buy in any auto parts store. Alot of the new synthetic oils are very good but supposedly Mobile1 is the best. If you don't care about cost you might want to try Royal Purple or Amsoil synthetic oils but those are alot more expensive. ( they are typically used in racing applications).

the only kind i ever use in any of my cars any more is Mobil one synthetic oil it last real good, and its the best protection you can get for any car,its sort of like having an insurance policy on the engine,it does help them to last a lot longer, and you don't have to change it as often,i only change mine about every 7-8 thousand miles, good luck with it.

I can't endorse any one brand but I can say that the API rating is key when choosing your oil. This link explains it all for you.
