I need to know this definition for school, and I searched my text books, and online, but I still dont know exactly what it is/does in the diesel engine. Can someone help me???

This must be the pulley connected to the cooling fan on the front of the engine.

Diesel fan drive pulley.
As far as I know there is not a diesel fan that is driven by a pulley.
It probably is the drive pulley for the engine cooling fan on a diesel engine.
If it is this, the drive pulley is behind the cooling fan and bolted to the water pump. This whole assembly, fan, pulley and pump are driven by a drive belt. This drive belt would also drive the alternator via another pulley.
The crankshaft pulley is a third pulley connected with the drive belt. The crankshaft pulley (as it sounds) is connected to the crankshaft. The crankshaft is part of the engine and spins round and round driving the other two pulleys.
