Due to icy conditions and low traction, I revved my engine really high while the clutch was only partially engaged. Immediately after, there was a burning smell, which I assumed was the clutch.
The smell is gone and the car still shifts smoothly, but there seems to be a loss of friction when I engage the clutch, and the engine doesn't rev as high when I downshift from higher speeds. Long story short, I'm afraid there is some slippage going on.
This is a brand new VW Rabbit with only 1000 miles. Do I need to have the clutch inspeced and perhaps replaced in order to prevent future problems, or can this damage be chalked up to normal wear and tear?
