Mégane I or II?
If it is a Mégane II with the push-button start and electrical steering lock, is the steering lock disengaging properly?
If the car has been parked on full-lock, there may be too much pressure on the steering lock for it to disengage, and the engine won't start with the lock engaged. Try pressing the button while attempting to apply more lock, to take the pressure off.
Alternatively, for either I or II, it could be a fault with the solenoid on the top of the starter motor, or the wires leading to the solenoid.
Try asking at the Mégane owners' forum (http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/ )

So you did check that the battery is OK? If you put the lights on do they go dim or out when you try to start? Then I'd suspect the battery.
If the lights are OK and you don't even get a click when you try to start then I'd suspect the starter motor relay. Get a manual and find out where to hit it with an hammer. That sometimes unsticks it.
